The Twelve Days of BlogMas: a contest, the rules and day one

First of all, Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good morning. We're done opening presents here at Buxom Hall, and I have a few minutes to fool around on the internet before it's time to cook the roast beast.

Some of you have been coming around here for long enough to remember the original 12 Days of Blogmas, where I blogged the 12 days of Christmas by illustrating the lyrics to the song.

And some of the posts were rather clever, if I do say so myself.

And then last year I did a Google Images version of the same thing.

This year I'm branching out. I'm going to celebrate 12 days of Blogmas with Google images, but instead of illustrating the Twelve Days of Christmas, for each of the twelve days, I'm going to illustrate the first line of one of my favorite carols. And I'm not going to make it easy by using an image that shows the word. (At least not in English.)

And to keep things interesting, there will be prizes. I'll award a $15 iTunes or Starbucks gift card to the first person who correctly identifies the carol. That's right! Free tunes or coffee!

And why? Because I'm an attention whore I wish you a merry Christmas. That's why.

So here we go. The first carol of the 12 Days of Christmas. Ready?

And now excuse me. I have to go play with my new iPhone.

  1. I am going to e-mail you the answer, but I cheated. You need to change the names of the images. If I mouse over, I can read what they are called and put the clues together. No prize for me, I'll try the next one!

  2. OK, the 4th one has got to be "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen". If not, I deserve partial credit, at least.

    Merry Christmas!

Oh yeah, Ethan & I both got iPhones, too. They are the BEST gadgets ever.

  3. Ooooo! Oooooo! Well, the first one just screams "Santa Baby" and all I can think of for #2 is "We Three Kings of Orient Are", although I only see two Asians. Number 3 could be "Angels We Have Heard on High" because the people look a tad altered. Number 5? Again, HIGH School Musical does suggest the aforementioned "Angels We...". So, What's #3? Um, the altered state people look merry -"We Wish You a Merry Christmas"? Or "Here We Come A-Wassailing"? Or "Dance of the Fairies"?

    You are vexing me, woman!

  4. Isn't this supposed to be ONE song?

It's the one that goes Ding Dong Merrily, but I have no idea what it's actually CALLED. Bet you sing it in choir, though!

  5. Yes, daysgoby; there is a Santa Claus, and the carol is "Ding Dong Merrily on High."

MAW is the winner, because she emailed me the right answer. And even though she is a big cheater-pants, she wins the prize, although if she continues in her life of crime, Santa will put probably put coal in her stocking. Because duh, I never thought about file names. (If I uploaded a picture of me, the file name would be colormeclueless.jpg.)

So the contest continues. And I promise to change the names of the photographs, just to keep things exciting.
