In addition to new posts on this blog, there are a lot of things you don't see much any more.

Alka-Seltzer ads

Not that I miss these.

Or him.

Lifeguards with white zinc cream all over their noses

OK. Can somebody explain what this was about?

Maybe what I miss most ... Nicole Kidman's natural hair color. Why doesn't she want to be a redhead any more?

I liked them. (Are they still on?)

Psssssst! This stuff didn't work.

This didn't work either. And could be replaced with a wire hanger. Or cable.

Also:

telephone booths

women with curlers in their hair

Tokens. Subway or highway.

  1. I love watching really old commercial like that Alka-Seltzer one. I think I could watch them all day! They're so funny without them even trying to make them funny.

  2. Oooo... if you think Fabio isn't around much anymore, you must have missed America's Next Top Model last season when the girls had to pose with him for fake romance novel cover. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  3. My kids recently saw Psssssst in an old folks' catalog. Who knew the stuff still exists? And why? As you pointed out, the stuff doesn't work unless you like the look and smell of dirty hair laced with baby powder.

My boy thought that Psssssst looked like a good idea and that maybe we should get some.

Which got me started on all the things from my childhood that never worked very well such as TV antennae of all sizes (even "tin foil" extensions didn't work) and bad disco cassette tapes that always knotted.

Even the plot lines in romance novels featuring cover boy Fabio never worked.

I guess I'm glad we didn't get the Passat five years ago.
